It's Time For Teeth

How much do you really know about your teeth aside from the fact that you have them

under your nose and above your chin? You'll soon find everything you need to know about teeth here. There are several kinds of teeth since each kind caters to specific purpose. The teeth in front are known as the incisors. They are used to push food in and they are also the sharpest. The teeth you find along the corner of your mouth are the canine teeth. These long-rooted teeth are the best when it comes to tearing and grasping the food in your mouth. Premolars are the ones situated behind the canines and the ones that crush food with their flat surfaces. Molars are much bigger than premolars and have a larger, flatter chewing surface. These are the ones that grind food into very small bits.

Every tooth is composed of its root and crown. The root, which is 66 percent of the length of the tooth is below the gum line while the crown is the one you see when you open you mouth. A distinct kind of tissue makes up every single one of our teeth. The tooth enamel protects it from wear and tear caused by frequent chewing. The dentin is defined as the yellow, bone-like area where nerve fibers reside which supports the enamel. The core of each tooth is called a pulp and it is also where the blood, nerves and lymph vessels are found.

The teeth sends signals to the brain through the pulp which is also responsible in receiving nourishment for the tooth. The cementum's job is to connect the teeth to the jaws and cover it. The part known as the periodontal ligament cushions and also connects the jawbone to the cementum.

Braces have soared into popularity for being an effective orthodontic treatment, but do many of us truly know how they function? Straight teeth do not only serve aesthetic purposes but also promote the proper function of mouth in chewing and speaking. Teeth which are crocked and unnaturally spaced make it harder to be cleaned thus increase the chance of cavities. Discomfort and pain arise when the teeth are crooked and affects the jaw lines.

A method of correcting this is by braces or retainers which are popular orthodontic measures. Teeth out of their customary position especially ones that still grow are fixed in time by orthodontic treatments. It is simple to understand the components of the braces: first is the brackets which are attached to the tooth by the bonding, and finally the arch wire, a thin metal wire that connects all the brackets.

Plenty of today's orthodontic patients choose to go for braces that attach to the back of their teeth or ones that come in transparent brackets. From old train track ways, braces have indeed changes. After it has done its job, there is a need to use retainers. Keeping these teeth in their new straight positions can be done by using custom made appliances known as retainers. These can manage fixing minor orthodontic concerns. Good looks as well as good health are attributed to straight and healthy teeth. More than healthy bodies, we have other reasons to smile about when we know everything about our teeth as well as caring for them.
