How To Market Yourself And Your Small Business

No matter how much we deny it, when we go out and meet people

, we need to sell ourselves to make us more interesting in the eyes of other people. We need to put our best foot forward all the time and try to impress - especially if we represent our own business and go on these meetings to network in behalf of the company.

The way we carry ourselves is a reflection of the business we represent. The more contacts we make, the higher the possibility of us generating business for our company. So what are the best ways that we can market our selves online?

BECOME AN EXPERT IN YOUR FIELD. If you know you are excellent in something - work on developing and enhancing it. There is no sense in trying to master every little task, because your inability to focus will cause all things you are trying to perfect to altogether fail. Multi-tasking is good, but you must still focus on one main thing. If you are great in writing, use it to your business' advantage and write a blog. Use your expertise in selling yourself. Explain to people how better off they are patronizing your business. Use your flair for words to your benefit. Now if you can't write, then don't even attempt to be an expert blog writer because it will only result in failure.

KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP AGAINST. KNOW WHAT YOUR COMPETITORS ARE DOING. This one is self-explanatory. When you know what your competitors are doing, you will know how to deal with potential customers, and you will be ready when they ask you "so how is your product different from product Y (competitor)?" If your competition is very good, then tweak your product so that yours becomes excellent. But remember - don't bad-mouth the competition. Clients will get turned off.

BUILD A NETWORK WITH THE INFLUENTIAL EXPERTS IN YOUR NICHE. This is close to saying that you "surround yourself with winners." It's true, these experts know what it takes to succeed, so any good influence you can get from them will be to your business' advantage. Needless to say, these influencers also have the power to refer you to their own network of power clients... so keep them close. Remember that quality of clients is much better than quantity of clients. Quality clients know what loyalty is. Quantity clients, on the other hand, buy once and try out your competition after.

SEND NEWSLETTERS. Probably the best way for you to sell your business, products or services. Inform people of developments within the company. Post testimonials from the influencers. Tell them about your new items - and be sure to create a subliminal need on the minds of the reader to purchase (even if they don't really need it).

ORGANIZE EVENTS AND CONTESTS. Now that people see you as an expert, they will want to hear your secrets. Organize lectures, webinars, shows where you can impart your expertise. Remember that the best way to succeed is by helping others to succeed too. No real knowledgeable person is selfish with their secrets - they want others to benefit also.

MAINTAIN A PROFESSIONAL-LOOKING WEBSITE. After the initial selling of yourself, people will most probably want to see your website to make the final decision. When they do come to take a look, make sure you have posted your outstanding testimonials from the influencers. This is could make or break it for you.

PROVIDE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. This is like saying, "Back up your claims." After you make the sale - that's when your excellence should come in - are you accessible when your clients need you? Are you able to answer their questions, or respond to their needs? The after-service factor is that which determines if your client will patronize your business again - or if they will dart out the door after the initial sale. As for repeat and loyal clients, reward them. Show them that you value their business. Also ask for feedback so that you will always be aware of how you can improve - in order to make everyone happy.
