How To Get A Job: Make Your Own Rules

If you've ever had an unsuccessful job hunt then you know how difficult it can be

. Applying for jobs is often a hit or miss situation. On the other hand, job hunting can be very rewarding even before you actually land a job. The perfect job may not be waiting, but it's possible that you can make your own perfect opportunity.

Applying for jobs is a process that many people are familiar with: search the classifieds, send in a resume and then hopefully go in for an interview. After that you most likely have to sit around and hope for a call that means good news. You and so many other job-seekers know the steps, but the whole process doesn't really fit you. If you want a head start on other job-seekers, take a look at these options.

Go on the offensive. No doubt you're used to applying to a job based on a posting for an open position. Cold-calling is a great way to get in touch with companies where you would like to work. In this way, you put yourself on the business' radar for now or in the future. Remember to read up on the the company's current issues. An employer may realize that you're a good fit to immediately deal with those issues.

Don't accept standard qualifications. It's common for job advertisements to list minimum qualifications to be eligible for a job. For some positions these specifications are important, but for others they are just guidelines. Even if you don't meet every criterion, apply for a job if it's one that you really want. Companies teach their employees how things should be done, so initial guidelines are only part of the story. Also, employers may find that you have helpful abilities that they didn't initially seek out.

Think creatively. The most important part of a job search is making sure you maximize your potential. Searching online and offline is important to be able to find the most opportunities. Think about ways that you can distinguish yourself from other job-seekers and at the same time network with potential employers and colleagues.

To find a job you have to assess your own individual needs. Following someone's guidelines is only right if it works for you. If you think creatively and go on the offensive, you greatly increase your chance for success.
