How Plaque Will Ruin Your Teeth

I think many people would support me in saying that a trip to the dentist is not their most favorite thing in the world

. But the fact is, your oral health is important. Dentistry should be a top priority on everyone's list every six months. That's right, you should take car to see your dentist at least twice a year. If you have children, pediatric dentistry should definitely be one of you top priorities. Children should not go too long without seeing a dentist. Their oral health can be a big chore, and, let's face it, kid's just don't take care of their teeth like they should.

It is important to see your dentist so that you can keep up with your oral health. You don't want any cavities, and you want your gums to be healthy enough to support your teeth. If you neglect your oral care, your dentist may have to offer you a number of unpopular dental services. Nobody wants oral surgery, gingivitis, or any other unwanted oral diseases.

If you didn't care about your oral health before, perhaps you should as your dentist why it is so important to get a cleaning at least twice a year. Your dentist may tell you that your teeth support a vast number of germs and microbes. They will have learned in dental school all about plaque and how it forms on your teeth. It all comes down to the chemistry of dentistry. The material that your teeth are made out of have a very slight negative charge. If you do not pursue dental services, this negative charge will attract a microscopic species that will then cement to your teeth. Your dentist knows that this is just the first step of a dental catastrophe.

Once these first germs are attached to the enamel of your teeth, it welcomes many different kinds of germs to join the party. Your teeth and mouth support more kinds of germ species than anywhere else on the body. There is no lack of germ species, even if you brush your teeth and floss every day. Any dentist knows that this is exactly how plaque builds up on your teeth. Without dental service, the health of your teeth can be greatly damaged. It takes a dentist that has been through dental school and who has specific tools to be able to get rid of the plaque buildup on your teeth.

It is not just the plaque on your teeth that is hazardous to your oral health. Dental studies have found that the danger comes especially when sugar is added to the equation. When sugar enters the oral cavity and comes in contact with your teeth, and therefor the plaque on your teeth, the colony of germs that have aggregated on your teeth will immediately start to ferment the sugar. Your dentist could tell you that this fermentation of sugar causes acid build up. Acid buildup is dangerous for your teeth because the H+ will bind to an available site on the enamel of your teeth. With out dental services from your dentist, this bond will rip apart the enamel on your teeth.
