How Much do you know About your Teeth?

How Much do you know About your Teeth?

Above your chins and under your nose is where the teeth grow, but do you really know a lot of things about them? Here is a simple lesson in facts about our teeth. Each kind of tooth serves a specific purpose that's why each is different from the other. The teeth in front are known as the incisors. They are sharpest, designed to shovel the food inward. The canine teeth can be found in the mouth's corner. This kind of teeth have the longest roots and they fare well in the process of tearing and grasping food. At the back of the canine teeth are the premolars which crush the food with their flat chewing surface. Molars on the other hand boast of bigger and flatter chewing area as these are much larger than the premolars. Breaking down food into small pieces is what they do best.

The two basic parts of teeth are crown and root. The root, which is 66 percent of the length of the tooth is below the gum line while the crown is the one you see when you open you mouth. Each one of our teeth is composed of four different tissues. The tooth is protected from the wear and tear of chewing by a durable covering known as the enamel. The dentin is the part of the tooth that carries nerve fibers, supports the enamel and is yellow and bone like in appearance. At the very core of the tooth is where the pulp is, and it also protects the blood, lymph vessels and nerves.

The teeth sends signals to the brain through the pulp which is also responsible in receiving nourishment for the tooth. The cementum functions as connector of the tooth to the jaw line as well as the one that covers it thoroughly. The jawbone is connected to the cementum via the cushioning layer of the tooth known as the periodontal ligament.

Apart from braces being effective in fixing crooked teeth, do you know how exactly it functions? Apart from good looks, straight teeth aids in proper speech and chewing purposes. Teeth which are crocked and unnaturally spaced make it harder to be cleaned thus increase the chance of cavities. Crooked teeth affects the jaw lines which then causes terrible pain and discomfort.

This can be corrected by orthodontic methods like braces and retainers. In time, orthodontic treatments work effectively in straightening our the misaligned teeth especially ones that have moved from where their place is. The three components of braces are the brackets that are attached to the teeth, the bonds that attach brackets to teeth and lastly, the arch wire that goes through the teeth and connects them.

Plenty of today's orthodontic patients choose to go for braces that attach to the back of their teeth or ones that come in transparent brackets. Braces today have come a long way since its older times known as train tracks.Once these are done with its duties, the patient then has to use retainers. Using retainers which are custom made teeth appliances help keep teeth in their new straight positions. These hold the answer in minor orthodontic problems. To achieve both good health and beauty, straight and healthy teeth are a must. Not only will you have a healthy body but you'll also have loads of reasons to smile about when you know how to care for your teeth properly.
