How Kids Can Learn Empathy And Help Animals

Today classroom activities are not enough for children

, they need to learn more. We need to teach kids more apart from mathematics and science. Children need to learn empathy to grow up into caring and responsible adults. Kids can learn empathy from animals; they often help kids to see the world from the animals point of view that is, children will look at the world from the animals eyes. Empathy can be thought to kids by organizing fun activities, which would include classroom activities like showing movies and making use of free programs like TeachKind from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Another way is to take children to animal shelters or sanctuary.

Helping animals at the local animal shelter is a best way to start empathy classes that will develop charitable and compassionate thinking in children. Local animal shelters are always in need of help and they have many volunteering opportunities to help meet the needs of the suffering animals and to develop the kids overall personality. Children can do great work for animals at the shelter and learn a lot. For instance, the kids can donate their time for animals through simple projects like volunteering, fundraising and leafleting.

Generally, animal shelters depend upon local volunteers to help care for the animals. Therefore, the kids can clean up the kennels, spend time playing with the animals; they can take the dogs out for a walk or feed the pups and kittens. However, you need to know that animal shelters mostly have minimum age limits in order to volunteer and take part in their programs; this is just for the safety of the children and for the animals. If the kid is too young to volunteer directly at the shelter, do not worry! For kids who are too young, can help animals in numerous ways. These kids can raise funds for the shelter you can ask the kids to make crafts or paintings that can be sold and the money raised can be donated to shelter.

Children can also carry around cute handmade donation cans with drawings and paintings of animals on it, and the kids can go around the neighborhood requesting for donations. You can also get in touch with the shelter and ask what the shelter is in need for, like toys, bedding, bowls, food, etc. depending on the list the kids can collect them from their homes and from the neighbors and probably visit another schools nearby and request other kids to donate more. Kids can also donate office supplies like pens, pencils, papers, glue, CDs, envelopes, erasers, etc., which is always in need for the shelter staffs.

So how children be benefited from such activities? Kids will learn to be responsible, and grow up becoming compassionate individuals with high level of empathy and sympathy. They end up becoming caring persons and tend to help people in need. They learn to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves. They also become responsible guardians for animals and good citizens.
