Holidays In Paris, France

Paris is one of the most famous and visited cities in the world

, attracting tourists from all over the world. There are many iconic and celebrated monuments and buildings, alongside museums that house works of art such as the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo.

Art Galleries

The biggest museum in the city is the Louvre, housed in the palace that used to be the city home of the French royal family. The building features many different architectural styles as different kings added new rooms and wings. The twentieth century has made its own contribution to this mix with a glass pyramid that serves as the entrance and ticket hall. Works of art in the Louvre date from Ancient Egypt to the nineteenth century. The Mona Lisa, one of the most famous paintings in the world, is located here, though there is always quite a crowd in front of it and the security guards stop you from getting too close. The Musee d'Orsay is housed in an old railway station and houses the collection of modern art including works by Money, van Gogh and Cezanne. The building itself is beautiful and visitors are able to stand behind the huge glass and gold leaf clock faces to enjoy the view over the river.

River Seine

There are five or six different companies running boat trips on the River Seine, the most famous being the Bateuax Mouches who start from the Pont d'Iena in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Most will provide a commentary in different languages, giving you anecdotes and pieces of historic information about the landmarks you are passing. You get great views of Notre Dame, the Louvre and the Tuileries gardens from the river, as well as the regular buildings of Paris which all have their own impressive style.

Birds Eye View

You can choose from three or four different monuments to get a view over the city from a height. The most famous is the Eiffel Tower, but if you choose to get the lift up this icon then it won' feature in any of your photographs. The Arc de Triomphe is not too high, but it can be very entertaining watching the Parisian drivers negotiate the roundabout at your feet while the Montparnasse Tower is outside the historic centre, meaning you can take pictures of all the attractions. You can enjoy a great view of Paris from the Sacre Couer church and Montmarte, as well as exploring the narrow cobbled street or having your portrait painted by one of the many artists who still work in the area.
