Health Insurance Worries

Insurance always carries kind of a negative connotation

. You make payments with the understanding that something bad can and will likely happen. We have accidents, we get sick, and that's just the way it is. Since we don't know exactly what will happen or when, health insurance is a necessary protection from the crippling medical debt that can occur if you aren't prepared for the worst.

Many insurance companies identify their clients in two ways: "the good risks" and "the bad risks". This is for them to know in advance if they will be able to get profit from their customers or not. For example, if someone had a serious illness and applied for health insurance, there's a good chance that the application could be denied. The reason is that they would expect to pay much more on their behalf than would end up being paying to them. It's a losing business equation for them. They are much better off taking on clients where neither party can say with certainty whether their health will fail sooner or later.

Another thing you should know that is hiding on the backstage of these companies is the representations of your premiums. If you belong to a high risk group they will likely charge you a much higher premium with the expectation that you may not be able to pay for a long period of time. High risk groups include the elderly, those with dangerous occupations and hobbies, and those with preexisting health conditions. These groups generally have to purchase a much more expensive plan. Those who are younger however, and have a fairly clean bill of health are offered higher deductibles and lower premiums for obvious reasons.

These insurance companies impose prior authorizations or referrals from your health care provider before they can give you diagnostic tests, medicines, or make recommendations for hospitalization; which of course will delay the help and care that you need. This can be extremely stressful and frustrating when you have to deal with these unexpected and care altering issues at the worst possible times. Situations involving health are usually stressful without any additional chaos to begin with. Health Insurance Worries

The worst thing that you may need to look out for is health insurance fraud. It's always wise to stick to well known reputable companies when it comes to your insurance needs. The cost may be a little bit higher perhaps, but the peace of mind and care is worth it in the end. It's extremely important to know your policy and what services you have covered and what the limits of payment are. It's also wise to check with your local hospital and make sure they accept the type of insurance that you carry or are looking to purchase. You don't want to find out at the last minute that your coverage is not what you thought it was when you need it the most. Your health insurance coverage should be the least of your worries when the time comes that you have to use it for you or your loved ones. Make sure everything is as it should be well in advance.
