Getting children interested and excited about learning can be a tough challenge for parents and teachers alike. Encouraging kids to actively participate in their education can often seem like a losing battle but, with the help of new teaching techniques, the days of sitting idly in a classroom and watching the minutes tick by are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Interactive and participatory learning is the new teaching technique that is helping students get the best out of their education by making learning a fun, entertaining and involving experience. Allowing children to be present in their own learning process is the best way for them to retain information and enjoy the learning experience, but this can sometimes be a difficult task as young children can often get distracted, bored or just uninterested. From class projects to interactive games everything that can be learned can be taught in a way that will engage pupils in subjects and encourage them to enjoy learning. There are several ways to get kids excited about learning and the most successful way to teach is said to be through participatory lessons. This is when children can actively get involved in a lesson and can take part in solving problems, creating work or simply helping others with their learning. The best way to get children comfortable with participating in class is to make learning really fun. Try to incorporate quizzes, games and activities into your teaching technique so your kids will be keen to join in and learn. Working together is an important and valuable lesson to learn so teaching this at a young age is vital for childrens confidence and their future working relationships. If you find there are some pupils who are not particularly comfortable with participating in front of the whole class then try splitting your pupils into groups so they are able to contribute without feeling shy. Using tools such as computers or an interactive whiteboard can all help facilitate participation amongst pupils. Try getting the children to work together to solve problems and then explain their answers to the class using these mediums. This can encourage your children to be more involved in a lesson and can give them confidence when participating in class. The way we learn as children often carries through to adulthood so finding the right learning style can influence our education throughout our lives.
