Freelance Writing Advice: How To Make Money Online If Writing Is Your Passion

Many have a passion for writing, but they have no clue as to how to go about making money from it

. One wanna be freelance writer summed up the sentiment so many have who want to enter this profession. She said so eloquently:

"I've never been interested in traditional jobs, even though I've had to do a few. They destroy my body, mind and spirit. But writing is my passion. I just need to learn how to earn money doing it."

Ever had this feeling?

If Writing Is Your Passion, Here's a 3-Step Plan for Making it Happen -- Sooner Rather than Later

1. Forget "Fun" Writing

I hate to be so blunt right off the bat, but this type of writing rarely pays the bills. Freelance writers often have to write on topics they neither know or care about.

BUT... it's what pays the bills.

Write your great American novel or do your "fun writing" on the weekends or in the evenings. Daytime hours should be devoted to doing - and marketing for - client work (which often is not fun).

2. Decide on What Type of Writing You Want to Do

Do you want to write SEO content? Do you want to write sales copy for small businesses? Do you want to write copy for trade magazines (eg, dental magazines, oil drilling magazines, horticulture magazines)?

Tip: Once you decide what type of writing you want to do, develop a niche. You'll be successful that much sooner.

Once you decide on the type of writing and what your niche within that discipline is going to be, then....

3. Get Freelance Writing Training

If you don't know how to do any type of professional writing (eg, SEO writing, how to pitch magazines, how to write sales copy), find a course or a mentor to teach you.

Or, you can find out for free - online. There's so much free, excellent info out there on how to become a freelance writer - in almost any discipline - that all you have to do is spend some time to find it and digest it.

Advice about freelance writing courses: If you do decide to pay for a course, do all of the course work. If it's given by a reputable firm, it will be designed to make you successful quickly as a freelance writer.

Many wannabe freelance writers are excited initially. Then, when they find out how much work is involved, they simply never follow through (eg, don't turn in marketing plans, don't ask questions, don't get their website done, etc).

But if this is something you really want -- and you spend your hard-earned money on a freelance writing course - get your money's worth! Your success as a freelance writer depends on it.
