Why I can't lose weight?

There are people who can eat whatever they want and not gain weight. Most of us are not included. It might not be you fault if you're not getting any where, even if you are doing all the right things. There are few factors that are really out of our hands.

Genetics

Genetics play huge role in the way we look, so we come in all shapes and forms. This is a good thing, otherwise we would all look the same, and what a boring world would that be. We have all heard the saying she is just big boned for a woman that looks stocky regardless of how much she diets. Many people with large bones, abigger muscle mass, and a slow metabolism find it just as hard in losing weight as others. There is no reason that they cannot take care of their weight; it's hard for them and more effort is needed. A lean diet, a smaller quantity of food and regular exercise work for them as good as for everyone else.

Sex

Women are more prone to gaining extra pounds around buttocks, stomach and chest than men. Nature made sure that they have aprotective layer around the stomach where babies are carried. Their metabolism is measured more than men, in order to tolerate times of famine and hardship. The femalehas 35 billion fat cells however the male has 26 billion. Men are stronger than women, so when exercising they burn much more energy than women. This is not the case for every man and woman, there is much we can change with a little effort, but the majority of us are stuck with what we got from nature.

Fat cells

Fat cells have an annoying ability to get created easily and staying around even when we try to lose weight. When we do lose weight our stored fat is burned off, except that the fat cells remain. They just stay around to get replenished when we get back to eating again. When we gain weight, we first replenish existing fat cells, and then create new fat cells in which fat gets stored. Just like all other cells, they constantly get created and die, but much slower. So, if your mother fed you until you were an adorable little ball, she was not doing you any favors. You couldhave to deal with the fat cells that were created when you were young for a long time. No wonder liposuction is making so many plastic surgeons rich.

Culture

We live in the world in which food is abundantly cheap and easily accessible. Growing food and hunting for meat is a thing of the past. Any one being fat in some poor countries signify wealth, in our culture it's a sign of over indulgence.

Another custom is our lack of understanding and a requirement for immediate satisfaction. We want everything now, so if our weight loss plan does not work in a few weeks, we consider it failed, and move to another one. A good plan to work properly requires time for the chemical changes to begin workingin the body, eventually losing weight.

Lack of sleep

In times of old, people went to sleep when the sun went down, and woke up when the sun came up. Normally, we require about 8 hours of sleep for us to operate efficiently. Artificial light in today's lifestyle seems to have altered our habits. If we do not get enough sleep, our appetite increases and we eat more. This is due to hormones that tell the brain that the body has had enough to eat. Scientists found that the more hours sleep the body gets, the ghrelin concentrations deceases, reducing appetite and preventing weight gain.
