Dishwasher Buying Advice

Dishwashers are a godsend for convenience in homes

, restaurants and hotels. They provide a quick and easy way to wash all food utensils without having to do it manually. With technology as wonderful as it is nowadays, dishwashers are easier to operate than ever before, cheaper to run, and are all round a lot more efficient.

The only difficult thing is choosing which dishwasher to buy. There is an overwhelming choice on the market these days. Read on for some pointers on the factors you should take into consideration when choosing your next dishwasher...

Size

Full size dishwashers Full size dimensions are 85(h) x 60(w) x 60(d) and usually contain 12 place settings. The machine can fit nicely under a counter top.

Standard Size dishwashers these are ideal for families with 2 or more people.

Slimline dishwashers slim models are usually 45cm wide and can have as many as 9 place settings. These models are best for houses with small kitchens and single occupancy properties.

Compact dishwashers Perfect for single person residences, especially open plan style flats. They can be placed on top of counter tops for easy access.

Washing Programmes

You may want to keep an eye out for certain washing programmes that will be of use to you. Some washing cycles that are common on modern dishwashing machines are:

Economy this uses cooler water to use up less energy.

Half-load pretty self-explanatory. Ideal to use when half of the machine is empty. This again helps to save energy by only using up half as much water.

Timer Delay Allows you to choose a specific time of day for your washing cycle to start. You might have a cheaper energy tariff in the evenings, which could make this a useful feature.

Energy Rating

If you are conscious of the running costs of your machine, you will want to be very mindful of the energy efficiency rating. Most modern machines have a rating of A to A+++, which is right at the top of the scale. Beware though if you are buying an older model, as many older machines have energy ratings of B or C. Having a dishwasher with a high energy rating can dramatically decrease your running costs and save you a handy sum.

Noise Levels

If you look at the specs for any machine, it should specify the noise level in decibels (dBs). If your machine is not going to be positioned in an enclosed area, be sure to look for one with low decibel levels.
