Creating Unity In Your Blended Family
A blended or step family needs to feel unity just like a nuclear family
. Blending a family is a unique experience because you and your spouse chose to form this unity. Explain to the children that everyone works together to make the family run as smoothly as possible. Talk to your children and explain to them how happy you are and that you want this remarriage to become strong and united. Of course, this feeling of unity does not come overnight, it takes time.
Activities to create unity
There are activities you can participate in to create unity in your blended family. Have fun right in the comfort of your own home. There are plenty of activities you can do right at home. For example, have a movie night with everyone in the family. One person can make popcorn and another person can pick a movie. Sit back, relax and have a night of fun as a family. Really, anything you can do at home together is a great way to create unity in your family.
Go on a mini vacation together
There is no better way to create unity, then to go on a mini vacation together. It truly does not matter if the trip is with a step mom, step dad or step kids because the entire trip can be magical. If you cannot afford a mini vacation, then consider taking a day trip somewhere. Anywhere where you can become a family unit is a great place to go. A day on the beach or at the zoo is a great way to spend time together.
Value each person in the family
When you are creating a blended or step family, it's important to make each person feel valued. If one person feels undervalued, then there will never be unity in your family. Although there may be some resistance when you are trying to create unity, everyone should be treated with respect. Keep in mind that spending any amount of time together can create family unity. No one expects you to provide elaborate vacations and drop thousands of dollars to create family unity. In fact, it's often the free and cheap time you spend together that ends up creating the most memories.
Just enjoy being a family
No matter who belongs in your family there is room for everyone. Remind each and every member of the family to treat each other fairly. It may be a hard process, but it's a journey that everyone has to take. With these aforementioned tips, you can create unity in your family.
