Cosmetic Dentistry Information About A Smile Makeover

With findings in 2009 reveal that of 100 people

, 99.7 percent of them believe their smile is a critical aspect to their social perception. As a result, smile makeovers have become an increasingly popular option in cosmetic dentistry.

Couple this with the fact that the definition of a smile makeover means many things to many people--from coveting a dazzling white Hollywood smile to a simple porcelain veneer correction--and the procedure becomes unique to an each individuals personal objectives.

For the most part, a smile makeover is used to straighten crooked teeth, repair chipped or broken teeth, fill in gaps between teeth or entirely replace a missing tooth (or teeth), correct an overly gummy smile, lighten (or whiten) dull, stained, and discolored teeth, and in some cases even includes treatment for deep frown lines or loss of fullness in the lips.

The cost for a makeover is of course dependant on the treatment (or treatments) required, the proficiency of the cosmetic dentists involved (with more than one medical professional often being utilized), the location of the practice where the treatments will be undertaken, and the types and quality of materials being used.

Since most cosmetic dentistry is considered optional and elective, it is very rarely considered a covered expense by insurance carriers, but most clinics have third-party financing options available to bring these desired services into reach.

In determining which treatments to undergo, the esthetic qualities of the desired smile need to be considered--things such as existing and desired tooth color (and how the two will balance upon completion of procedures), tooth length (since longer teeth tend to yield a more youthful appearance), tooth proportion (with regard to the two front teeth falling within the desired ratio), and overall tooth characterization (making certain that beauty is balanced with function).

And last, between the many corrective options and the levels of professional services available, it is critically important that patients go into the procedures with objectives clearly stated, all questions completely answered, and expectations fully managed.

With those items in check, a smile makeover should result in an experience that is nothing but enhancing.
