Cheap and Easy Fog Chiller-Fun For Your Entire Family
Have you ever seen a horror movie where the "mist" seems to hang 2 inches above the ground? Or watched in fascination as the "mist" slowly descends the stairs or floats under the door? Did you know that effect is, in actuality, quite easy to make?
The problem with smoke machines is that the liquid used to create the "smoke" is heated, thereby causing it to rise and dissipate throughout the air or the room where the smoke machine is located. However, with a few simple items, you can create the eerie effect of a thick blanket of fog in your own home
What You Will Need
First, you are going to need a fog machine and liquid. Then you will need a cheap styro-foam cooler, 2 feet of PVC (plastic) pipe, about 1 to 1 and 1 half inch in diameter, a small amount of chicken wire and some ice.
Here's The Easy Part!
Start by cutting a hole at both ends of your cooler. The holes should be big enough for the pipes to fit snugly. Cut the holes close to the bottom to facilitate the stability of the pipes. Then you want to cut your PVC pipe in half. Don't worry if it is not exactly half, it isn't necessary to be exact. Fit both pieces of the pie into both holes. Wrap the chicken wire around the ends on the inside of the cooler, and fasten it together with some scrap pieces of wire. Fill your cooler with ice, and place the lid on top.
Now For The Fun Part!
Position your fog machine with the nozzle of the fog machine blowing in to one of the pipe ends on the outside and turn it on. Once the fog machine is hot and ready, it will start blowing smoke into the pipe and into the cooler where it will immediately cool. As it is cooling, it will leak out the other end and fall to the floor or ground where it will "roll" creating the eerie blanket of mist that hangs just above the ground.
Or, if you want to create a misty stairway look, simply position your contraption at the top of your staircase and follow the previous steps. The cooler, heavier mist will flow down the stair case!

*TIP Smoke will eventually leak out of the cooler itself. This is no big deal, but if you don't want this to happen, simply place a heavy book on the lid. It will seal it up and maximize your smoke out-put.
