When researching your auto insurance options online, checking out car insurance reviews to start with, can be helpful - or not!

In these days of the World Wide Web, the first thing most of us do when shopping for anything is to look for reviews. We put a lot of stock in other people's opinions of products and services. A good review will give us the comfort of knowing we are making a wise purchase. On the flip side, we feel great relief when we discover bad reviews before making the purchase.

Beware. Review sites can be very, very deceiving! Can You Trust Car Insurance Reviews?

Today, everyone is and entrepreneur. It's pretty darned easy to throw up a web site and fill it with canned or regurgitated information in hopes of making a fast buck or two. Since there are a ton of people trying to make their fortune online, you will find plenty of so called information or review sites out there that are of little or no value.

There are a couple of scenarios to watch out for when you are searching for honest reviews. The first is the web site that touts the "Top 3, Top 5 or Top 10 Car Insurance Companies". Quite often, people build web sites and chose the top paying car insurance affiliate programs to represent. That means that the companies or "compare quote" sites they are affiliated with or "recommending" are paying them a commission to get your business. These companies may not necessarily offer you the cheapest rates but they are peddled as "the best" because the they are the most profitable for the web site owner.

The second scenario is the web site that lists many, many car insurance companies and offer only one opinion - theirs. They have no first-hand experience with most of these companies so their "recommendations" have no basis in fact. They are based mainly on their personal opinion after visiting the site. Since everyone's opinion are different, these sites are useless.

A good car insurance review site will list multiple reviews from actual customers on many different insurance companies. Viewpoint.com is a great example of such a site. They are a long standing, well established site. They have been online for almost ten years and offer a ton of reviews on just about every insurance company imaginable!

Of course you can forego the car insurance reviews altogether and go straight to the shortcut and save yourself a lot of time. There are any number of sites online that will allow you to input your information and compare car insurance quotes on the spot. Don't shop by price alone though, ask you friends and family for recommendations. Often the best testament to a company's policies and customer service is through word of mouth!
