Branding Yourself Online - The Real Scoop - Don't Worry, It's Painless
What the heck is being branded online? I cant tell you how many times I heard this term but really didnt understand what it meant.
I knew sort of what it was all about, meaning that some how I would be known as myself. I heard the term self branding which always sounded rather painful to me, and that self branding was the wave of the future and that it must be done.
Maybe it is just the term Branding that bugged me and caused some kind of mental block to be set up in my mind simply to slow me down. (I have a brain that does that to me every once in a while.)
Well I have never let my brain stop me before and this was not going to be an exception, I knew that if I just kept exposing myself to this kind of stuff sooner or later it would click, and sure enough, it did.
I was actually surprised that I had understood it all along, but not as a term that was talked about but as a real life practice. Are you ready for some examples? I am horrible at remembering names, there is probably some medical term for this somewhere, but it is just a fact. However, as with anyone else, there are some names that I have no problem remembering at all.
Why is that?
Its because they have been branded permanently in my mind for one reason or another. Usually, it is because I have been around them more than once or twice.
This should be giving you a little clue as to what this branding stuff is all about? The branding is really little more that being someone that they know without having to think about who you are. Make sense?
SoHow is this done?
Once again lets get our heads out of the internet and use an off line example here. If I see your face several times a day and your name is repeated enough times its just a fact that I am going to remember you.
It's the same with everyone.
Your banker, 7-11 cashier, or a resturant that you frequent. Over time all of these people begin to remember you from the repeated exposure.
Then, you can put this on steroids, if you step out of the crowd by doing something that few take the time to do. That is to simply ask about THEM.
You are now BRANDED in their memory. While a little less severe that using a hot iron, it is no less permanent. Im willing to bet that there are people branded in your memory that you would just as soon not have there, but that is another subject completely right? Lets just move on.
How did they get there? Same way, huh? Some good ol' constant repeated exposure and all of the sudden its permanent.
Heres the end statement and the conclusion of my point.
You being BRANDED online is you being exposed enough times in different places with:
1. Knowledge people want.
2. Experiences people want to hear.
3. Training that people need.
4. Direction that people are searching for.
5. You fill in the next one
6. And the next
Thats what it means to be Branded. NowHow do you do it? Ahh, I thought youd never ask. That is a subject all in itself, and it is well worth the education.
