Baby Feeding Time - Learn The Signs

There is a lot of controversy surrounding what baby feeding time should be

. While tradition tells us to get them on a time-lined schedule, where baby learns to expect their formula at certain times -- and only those certain times. Recent scientific studies here in the United States have begun to debunk these traditions: Claiming that more frequent feedings may be more beneficial to infants.

This theory is somewhat similar to how the 3 meals a day rule has went out the window in the last decade. It's been proven that frequent, nutritious meals are more of a benefit to children and adults -- as our bodies can process frequent smaller meals faster, than a few large sessions. It's believed that making your baby wait for their meal, even though they're hungry, will cause them to over-indulge at baby feeding time, much like adults will over-indulge if they force themselves to only a few meals a day.

Many pediatricians are now recommending feeding your baby 8 or more times in a 24 hour time-frame. This can mean that you may actually be waking your baby more than parents have in the past, simply to give them an extra meal. The idea is that you will be giving their bodies as much nutrition as they can handle, without over-feeding them, as they will likely take a few mouthfuls and fall back to sleep.

Breastfeeding

This may not apply to everyone who reads this article: But women who breastfeed 8 or more times in a 24 hour period have been found to produce more milk, that is better suited to the baby's needs -- indicating that perhaps traditional thinking about set feeding times may have actually been contradictory to what nature originally intended.

Conclusion

Make baby feeding time a constant, unscheduled event throughout the day. It's been proven that many habits are formed from birth and eating frequent, small meals are what keeps us from becoming obese.
