Avoiding The Extra Pounds This Holiday Season

This holiday season you can keep off the pounds instead of taking them on

. You can be healthy and still enjoy the vacation and holiday time that you are accustomed to if you take the time to be prepared for the holiday season.

The first rule to staying healthy during the holiday season is to not over indulge. There are many people that have a hard time with this during these last few months of the year simply because they are surrounded by food.

When you are surrounded by a lot of food it can be hard to practice self control with your eating. This means you need to be careful about what you surround yourself with so that you are not eating bad foods mindlessly.

You should not be eating any foods mindlessly. You want to make sure that you are taking the time to understand how you are going to keep good foods around you rather than the sweets and treats that are going to be floating around the house.

When you are playing games you want to make sure that you push food out of arms length. As you remove the food from your arms length you will be able to avoid munching on the food when you are playing games or socializing.

You do not have to make this an awkward shove of food from your proximity. Instead be strategic about where you sit and you can gently move the dishes so that they are not easy to reach from where you are sitting.

As you are practicing moderation you also want to make sure that you are still exercising. Many people avoid exercising during this season for many different reasons and feel that it can take a backseat until the New Year rolls around.

The first reason that many people are not out exercising is because it is cold outside. Even though it is cold outside you can find ways to workout indoors to avoid the bad weather and still get your exercise in.

When you are working out indoors you may want to consider purchasing a treadmill. This can be of great benefit during the months when the temperature is not conducive to putting on your gear and running outdoors.

Another reason why many people are not exercising during the holiday season is because their gym closes for many days. Your gym may close during the week of thanksgiving, the week of Christmas and the week of New Years Day.

When you get out of your workout rhythm because your gym is closed it can be hard to get back into it. Take the time to understand how you are going to get your exercise in without the gym and without the great outdoors.

If you have a group of friends that you can enlist to workout with you each day you will be much more likely to continue the habit. This sense of support and obligation to them will be very beneficial as you are trying to establish this type of habit.

You should also make sure that you understand how you are going to make time for your exercise. If you have a treadmill in your home you will not have to schedule time with others but it will be much easier to get distracted.

When you are working out by yourself it is easier to come up with excuses and tasks that will prevent you from exercising. The more excuses and the more tasks that you engage in the harder it will become to create this type of habit.

If you are going to run on your own treadmill you want to make sure that you budget your time well. Take the time to schedule your workout so that you know when you are going to be on the treadmill and when you are going to step off.

As you take the time to budget your time you want to make sure that you think about the time before and after your workout that you will need. You need time to warm up and time to cool down after your workout.

You also need time to get dressed before and after your workout. After your workout you will also need time to shower off and get ready for the rest of your day.

No matter what you decide to do with some exercise and self control you can ensure that you do not put on those extra pounds this holiday season.
