On Nov. 3, he was part of the biggest-ever Christmas carol sing-along in London with the St. Paul's Cathedral Choir, an event that also marked the world premier of A Christmas Carol. Bocelli will also be streaming live into countless homes this Thanksgiving Day, as he is one of the names set to perform at the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 26. Like great tenors of the past, Andrew Bocelli was born in Italy, spending his childhood in rural Tuscany. He started playing the piano in his youth, but also had poor eyesight. Before his teens, he had a soccer accident that left him blind. He continued to pursue music and also his studies, eventually earning a law degree. While practicing as a lawyer, he also studied under Franco Corelli. He eventually started performing on stage, but it wasn't until the 1990s that he found his big break.
Helping his releases gain fame were his collaborations with the likes of Luciano Pavarotti, earning him the nickname the "Fourth Tenor." In 1996, he rose to new heights by releasing the song "Con Te Partiro" with Sarah Brightman, making him into a household name in much of Europe. Each release after that only solidified his growing reputation as one of the most accessible and talented tenors on the scene. His versions of songs like "Vivo Per lei (je vis pour elle)," "Ave Maria" and "Canto Della Terra" have become classics for those who love his work, and he has won and been nominated for many prestigious awards over the years.
