A Short Cancer Insurance Guide For Shoppers

Cancer insurance has been designed to offer you cancer support and take some of the

financial burden off you and your family when you need a helping hand. The insurance policy covers all types of cancers except those that have occurred before the effective date of your policy. It covers early stage cancers which have not spread, skin cancer other than malignant melanoma, leukaemia, any malignant tumour characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of malignant cells and invasion of tissue in a primary site, Hodgkins lymphoma and non-Hodgkins lymphoma, early stage cancer in breast that has not spread and malignant melanoma.

A cancer insurance policy is a supplemental health insurance policy that allows you to pay for unforeseen expenses such as transport to and from hospital, extra heating to keep you warm during and after treatment, extra child care when you are admitted in the hospital or unable to take care of them and nutritional supplements required for your recovery. The insurance policy relieves you from the financial pressure in case you are diagnosed with one of the above mentioned cancers.

However, if you have been diagnosed with any type of cancer before the effective date of the policy or it has been caused after the effective date because of any pre-existing condition, the insurance policy does not pay any benefit for such situations. You will not be able to avail the benefits of your policy even if you experienced symptoms of cancer before the date of the policy. A person is eligible for cover only if you have not been previously diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer care UK is available for individuals aged between 18 and 69. This specific policy is available with several different levels of cover: standard cover, premier cover, platinum cover and platinum plus cover. Higher the level of coverage, more the benefits you can avail. Along with financial support, you are also provided with emotional support. It includes a personal nurse adviser who will be available for dedicated help, advice and support by telephone. Additionally, you can avail up to five free telephone sessions with specialist counsellor, a residential course of complementary therapy, counselling program for you and your family and 24 hour access to insurance helpline.

The insurance claims can be made just 91 days after the purchase of plan. Even if you want to cancel your policy, the insurance companies allow you to call off your policy with 30 days of the start date shown on your schedule. You will be entitled to receive full refund of the premium. Whenever you purchase a policy, ensure that you understand it thoroughly.
