7 Things to Remember When Going On Holiday

Medical Kit

It could be an accident as simple as cutting your finger. Having some antiseptic liquid and bandages on hand are invaluable. A medical kit should have a range of items to cover all sorts of little accidents. Language difficulties overseas or hygiene issues mean that it's better to be prepared for little emergencies with a small kit of medical necessities.

A Good Book

Having a good book (or three) is good advice for a range of situations. The obvious ones are relaxing on the beach or lounging by the pool. Any time you are made to wait are others. This could be on local buses, waiting for sufficient passengers before they leave. Queuing for visas or waiting on local officialdom are others. If you are engrossed in a great novel's plot, then you won't mind these delays so much.

Electronic Chargers & Adaptors

One of the most frustrating things that can happen on holiday is lining up your camera to take a great photo of a historic monument or interesting festival, only to find you camera battery has gone. If you haven't packed your camera charger or battery charger, then you may be stuck. It's also worth planning ahead to find out what types of wall sockets are used in the destination you are visiting. Making sure you have an adaptor, as well as any chargers is equally important. Don't forget your phone and phone charger either, if you are planning to use your phone while on holiday.

Phrasebook

Unless you are planning on staying secluded in your resort, you may find yourself needing to converse with the locals. A pocket phrasebook is a great way to bridge the gap. If you struggle with hieroglyphic reading and pronunciations, you can often just point at a word or a local phrase in your book and your would be helper will most likely understand.

Sun Protection

Overindulgence under the sun can be a case of too much of a good thing. If you are not sure about the availability of sun cream in the place you are going, it's worth taking some from home. A wide brimmed hat, to keep those rays off is another good idea. If you are going somewhere like Mexico, you might be able to pick up a great one when you arrive. This will also double as an excellent souvenir.

Toilet Roll or Tissues

Some cultures have alternate toilet solutions from what one might be used to. If you are not prepared to "go native", then it's worth packing a toilet roll or some tissues. Keep these in your day pack so that wherever you are, you will be well prepared when nature calls.

Travel Insurance

Cheap Travel Insurance can easily be arranged, so don't forget this one either. It is not worth having a holiday ruined through unforeseen problems that travel insurance could have resolved. Make sure you pick a plan that's appropriate for your destination and the types of activities you are likely to undertake.
