32 Million People Uninsured: What Now?

32 Million People Uninsured: What Now?

President Obama took on a major issue to help develop a new health care system that would benefit the people in this country who need care the most

. While his plan for nationalized health care has gained a great deal of criticism from the general public, Republicans, and even a large number of people in his own party, the truth is, most people are still unclear on what all the terms of the new health care law will mean.

Some of the main points of the plan have been laid out quite clearly and include: people under the age of twenty six being able to stay on their parents' insurance plan regardless of student status, people with preexisting conditions not being denied coverage, and retirees on prescription drugs not having their coverage canceled for any reason.

While these ideas are good, and can benefit many, there has been little said about the people who voted for the new health care law because they felt badly for the 45 million uninsured Americans.

It now appears that anywhere from 30 to 32 million uninsured people will actually be able to gain health care insurance, but not right away. This will happen in the year 2014. This then brings up a whole new list of questions:

How much will the number of uninsured Americans grow by the year 2014?

How many of these uninsured people will die because of lack of care?

How are the 32 million uninsured people going to get their coverage?

What terms must these individuals meet in order to get health care coverage?

What will happen to the remaining 15 million people who are not selected for health insurance?

What will happen if the newly insured people cannot maintain their premiums or copays and have to cancel their plans?

It does not appear that these questions will be answered easily, or any time soon for that matter. There are a large number of factors that can take place between now and 2014, and Congress is likely to change its mind on just how the uninsured will be able to obtain coverage. Another strong possibility is that the United States government may not even have the money needed to take on the task of actually carrying through on the promise of insuring 32 million people.

Many political experts believe that by the year 2014, there will be nothing accomplished except for a very bitter taste being left in the mouths of those who believed the promises of the new health care law.
