When it all comes down to it there are many outrageous myths concerning a child bike
. Others barely cross the line between what is true and what isn't. Knowing something more about these myths is crucial when purchasing a bicycle.There is no such thing as a bicycle without pedals. False.
One common misconception is that bikes have to have pedals. This is of course because people have long had bicycles with pedals and many people have never give it a second thought it is something that is taken for granted. However, it has been shown that in younger children, particularly form the ages of one to five, that a bike without pedals is actually better than one with pedals. In fact, because the child does not need to focus on pedaling and balancing at the same time, it is far easier for them to get used to actually riding a bike as opposed to pushing some pedals with their feet. Children who go from balance bikes to normal bikes almost always have an easier ride compared to children who take off training wheels or were used to riding a stabiliser bike. The fact is would you prefer your child to get their balance in order first and learn how to glide on a bike (which is the most important thing) or to push some pedals with feet knowing full well that their centre of gravity is protected by two extra wheels?

Aah, the most common myth. Who can forget the days of having bikes that were either blue or pink? No other choices available... something Henry ford would approve of no doubt. Any colour as long as it's black (or blue and pink in the case of a child bike). Well, we aren't living in the 1900s anymore and there really is no need to constrain ourselves any longer. Forward thinking companies have increased the range of colour that bikes come in and you are now able to find a bike in any colour that suits your child's personality.
A child bike is extremely expensive. False.
A child bike used to be expensive. Then again, many things are expensive when there is a small supply available. Now that there are so many of these bikes to choose from and so many suppliers, they are falling rapidly in price. A brand new child bike can goes for under one hundred pounds and in the case of balance bikes with extendable seats they can last up to 5 years and are durable enough to be handed down from one child to the next. Expensive? I don't think so.
Now that you know all of this, there is no reason not to rush out and buy your child a bike for Christmas right now. They are absolutely one of the best invention ever. You have the knowledge now go and use it!
