Poseidon: Champion Australian Race Horse R H Dangar's Neotsfield Stud in NSW was one to create history with Poseidon, foaled in August 1903, moving on to become the greatest Australian Thoroughbred horses of all time.Poseidon was from the fifth crop of Positano, out of Jacinth, who was sold for 400 guineas to the Moses brothers as a foal at foot with his dam. However, the Moses brothers had no interest in Poseidon, who later sold him in 1905 to Sir Hugh Denison for 500 guineas, a sale they were sure to regret a year later. Trained by Isaac Earnshaw, Poseidon had a slow start to his career as a two-year-old with only one win and a third place from six starts. His first win came in his second start with an impressive four-length victory. The next stop was Melbourne, which did not do much for Poseidon's career at that point. It was back to Sydney, with a third placing in the AJC Nursery Handicap his best. Poseidon was sent out for a spell. However, with Tom Clayton in the saddle, perseverance paid off big time with the trio becoming one of the most successful in Australian horse racing history. Poseidon's exemplary career as a three-year-old in the 1906/07 season ended...more
