In April 2009 I returned to Turkey for another cheap holiday in Antalya staying at the Four Seasons apartment complex situated in Ilica a thriving and rapidly developing village within walking distance of the hotel resort of Kumkoy near the Historical town of Side on the Turkish Mediterranean currently served by Antalya airport - probably the largest airport in Southern Turkey. There have been rumours of the forthcoming opening of the new...more
My brother's 60th birthday was imminent and I had not thought of anything to gift him for this milestone in his life. Time was running out and so I decided to look through some gift sites on the internet in order to become "inspired."While browsing a search engine I came across a website which advertised "Memorable Experience" activity packages. I clicked on the link and was taken to a whole world of things such as Hot-Air Ballooning, Driving a...more
It's winter in South Africa, the day time average temperature is around 22 deg. C and the evenings are chilly by African standards with most areas between three and twelve degrees centigrade. Here is a quick aside, South Africans always drink cold lager, normally out of a 2-4 deg. Fridge, even in the coldest of weather, unlike the European beer drinkers where the beers, except perhaps in summer, are normally served at room temperature This has little however to do with winter travel in South Africa, what do we advise. Firstly, camping is not really an option, I am an avid camper but to most South African travellers this also means a barbecue (or braai as it is referred to in South Africa) every day or evening and the cold weather doesn't make this appealing. For the game reserve visitors, winter is really the absolute best time to visit, in summer most animals find shade and some form of shelter during the period between nine in the morning and four in the evening, as with humans, they get hot, using the coolers morning and evening hours for the gathering of food and hunting. Our first suggestion then is to pack your woollies and head for the many game reserves, enquire first about...more
In Ireland they used to have a currency called a punt, there was a joke floating around that the reason it was changed was because it rhymed with financial advisor. With my deepest apologies, this is meant merely as a joke, there are many financial advisors and others who sell and earn an absolutely honest living from commissions and incentives by...more

For many gap year travellers Australia may not seem to be, culturally, a million miles from home. The food, language and obsession with sport might remind you of home, but there are plenty of hidden sights and experiences here that will surprise you. Famous sights such as The Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Alice Springs and the rest are all worth visiting; the best sort of travelling is discovering something almost no one else has found. It's not guaranteed that you'll feel like exactly like Captain Cook, but this list should provide a way to escape the crowds and still have a great time. 1. Kangaroo Island, South AustraliaA brilliant way to get away from the crowds on Bondi Beach, Kangaroo Island is (unsurprisingly) home to Kangaroos as well as wallabies, koalas, seals and penguins! The surrounding water has protected its fauna from decimation; native forest and bush fill the interior and only give way on the edges to rugged cliffs and deep blue waves. Don't miss out on the local delicacy of Ligurjan honey and jam made from the island's fruits, and maybe even a little homemade wine. 2. Cape York Peninsula, QueenslandThis one really is for the most determined of explorers. The Cape...more
