Being the seat of the two Houses of the British Parliament, that is the House of Commons and the House of Lords, it is also known as Palace of Westminster or Westminster Palace. Nestled in the heart of the capital, within the borough of Westminster, the Houses of Parliament are found close to the historic Westminster Abbey as well as the political hub of Whitehall and Downing Street. It is also referred to by two other names, that is, the New Palace and the Old Palace. The Old Palace is what remains from the original structure, when a fire occurred in 1834. The Jewel Tower, St. Stephenss crypt and cloister, and Westminster Hall were its only survivors.
