You have packed your bags. You have the passports. You have the booking confirmation, and the taxi is outside your house. You can barely contain your excitement as you pull up to the departure terminal. But, your flight is cancelled. Your holiday provider has gone bust and you feel like you have been hit by a bus. This is a common story for those who have booked holidays with the Surrey-based company Goldtrail. Goldtrail went into administration at 4pm on the 16th of July, leaving an untold number of passengers stranded either abroad or without any holidays at all. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) estimates that approximately 16,000 people are stuck in Greece and Turkey with a further 2,000 due to fly out imminently. A CAA spokesman has confirmed that there are approximately 150,000 Goldtrail passengers, but it is not clear how many of these are actually going to be effected. What is clear, is the failure of Goldtrail does seem to have come out of nowhere. Customers have remarked that they were able to complete online check in and alter baggage arrangements only to arrive at the airport three hours later to see their flight cancelled.
