Tughrul Tower can be seen when you visit Rey in Iran. It dates back to the 12th century and stretches to a height of 20 meters. It is quite a tall tower constructed from bricks. It is in fact, the tomb of Tughrul, the Seljuk ruler who breathed his last in the city of Rey in 1063. It was originally built with a conical dome at its top which made the structure look even taller. Later on, this dome was destroyed in an earthquake. The walls of the monument are quite thick varying between 1.75 to 2.75 meters. The inner diameter of the wall is 11 meters with the outer one being 16 meters. While traveling in Iran, you can see that from outside, the structure looks like a polygon with 24 angles. This not only makes it look unique but also guards it from being destroyed by earthquakes.Ancient MonumentThe top of the Tughrul Tower bears many Kufic inscriptions which could be seen before Nasered-din Shah decided to do some restoration work on the top of the structure, which was starting to fall off in 1884.
