Several years ago my oldest was four years old and I was thinking that I needed to give him the opportunity to go to a preschool. We lived in an apartment complex and there was a day care / preschool right on the property. Parents that worked could drop their children off at the day care and their children would get a few hours of preschool and then the rest of the day would be a day care. Then they would open it up to parent's who just wanted their children to go to preschool in the morning and join with all of the other children. I had always felt that the teachers were very young and that they didn't seem to be supervised by a responsible adult. My son kept coming home crying and one day I walked up a little early and I heard one of the young girls yelling at my little four year old. I asked to talk to someone that was in charge and they said I would have to talk to corporate which was away from the property. I found that I ended up getting no help with the situation and I decided to never take my son back there. I had made up my mind that I wasn't going to trust anyone else to teach or take care of my son. Then I had a good friend of mine tell me about a child care...more

How to prepare your child for a stay in hospital Spending time in hospital is never fun, no matter what age you are, but this can be especially difficult for a child who doesn't fully understand the reasoning or need for a long stay in hospital. If your child has a hospital stay coming up there are several things you should do to put their mind at ease and wipe away any fears they may have about their visit. The first thing you should do is fully explain to your child why they need to go. Arriving at a huge building full of strangers can be a daunting and scary experience for a child so explaining the reasons for them being there will do a lot to quash their fears and help to get them ready for their stay. Once you have explained the basics behind your child's hospital visit it's now time to make sure they feel as comfortable as possible during their stay. To do this it's always a good idea to get your child involved in the preparation for their hospital visit. If you can, spend a day shopping for new pajamas, a new toy or a book to take with them and use throughout their stay. Buying them something new will not only feel like a well deserved treat but will also be the one...more
