brave A Family Outing?

Pixars movie Brave has todays parents smiling in satisfaction and encouraging everyone

to take their kids, especially mothers and daughters to see this film.

As animation goes, Pixar is known for its amazing quality. Pictures can wow anyone. But what a good movie needs, especially an animated one, is a great storyline that will carry you through all the way to the end. Are the characters developed enough for you to love them like friends? Do you feel the drama that is unfolding before you? Do you find that you even care? I think a good test is when a child will sit through a whole show and barely move. Okay, maybe move some. But if it is really good, it will keep them interested and they wont be distracted by much.

The story is set in the highlands of medieval Scotland, where the scenery is beautiful and the king and queen have a difficult time in controlling their growing daughter. After brawling about marriage and seeing that the three men chosen for her were complete and total wastes of time, Medina (the young heroine), flees her home and finds Disney/Pixars answer to being the antagonist, a witch! No, really? Oh, yes! I am not making this up! You would almost think that with such a different story with such a different kind of princess, that the wicked witch would be left out of it. However, potions are given out and Medina successfully turns her mother into a bear, which happens to be the very animal her father is deathly afraid of given he lost his leg to one. So you can imagine. Well, you can watch it for yourself if you cant image. So, this chain of events sends Medina on a mission to cure her mother, who cannot talk, but whom she grows very close with in the process.

If this were me, I would marry one of the blokes just because I did that to my mother. But, in my opinion, I think Pixar was thinking more along the lines that it is just fine not to rush into getting married, that it will come in time when the right man happens along. At least, that is what I hope the kids are pulling from that movie.

I love that Medina is not a simpering pampered princess who stays laid up in a castle all the time, nor is she a frail little thing with perfect hair that thinks she knows what danger is. This gal is a true tomboy that isnt afraid to stand up for what she believes in and speaks her mind. It is who she speaks it to that she might need to remedy. I thought Brave was a great family outing, one that has the potential to teach some lessons for parents and kids. But it seems to really strike home with moms and daughters and forging that relationship before it gets to the breaking point and she gets turned into a bear, sort of the way Finding Nemo struck chords with fathers and sons! Lets keep our fingers crossed that there are no witches in Scotland that can give these kids a potion. Moms! If your child hands you something weird to drink or messes with your dinner plate, be very suspicious.
