One interesting study is called, "Cytogenetic studies on chrysotile asbestos" by K. S. Lavappa1, M. M. Fu and S. S. Epstein - Environmental Research - Volume 10, Issue 2, October 1975, Pages 165-173. Here is an excerpt: "Abstract - The cytogenetic effects of chrysotile asbestos (chrysotile A) in vivo in Rhesus monkeys and Swiss albino mice, and in vitro in embryonic hamster cells were investigated. Single oral dosages of chrysotile, 100 or 500 mg/kg, failed to induce chromosome aberrations in bone marrow cells of Rhesus monkeys.
