Bits for both English and western riding are usually snaffle bits. However, western style uses an extra bar on the outside of the horse's mouth. This is known as a curb. You'll sometimes hear bits called snaffle curbs, which is in fact different than a curb bit.

Horse owners often use turnout blankets for outdoors use since they the exterior is water resistant and the inside is warm and padded. For indoor use, try purchasing a stable blanket. You'll find they are less fitted to the horse and come in a slightly lighter weight in most instances.
