It`s that time of year again, Thanksgiving or Christmas whichever the occasion it`s another family get together. You`re a fashionable and trendy young lady who is up on her styles but what`s appropriate to wear and what`s not at these events. Makeup, you don`t want your boyfriend`s uncle wonder if his nephew just picked you up on the corner so take it easy on the makeup. It`s better to play it safe and keep it simple save the dramatic makeup for the nights at the club. So no dark pencilled in eyebrows, outrageous colors of lipstick or foundation that looks like a mask. Choose concealer instead of foundation and go for brown mascara over black. Skip the lipstick and go for just lip gloss. Keep it light and fresh.
Some items in your closet are not meant for family gatherings place e.g. Spaghetti straps, sheer fabric, tube tops and mini skirts or shorts. If it`s your family then you may know what you can get away with but if you are visiting your boyfriends or husbands family it`s best to play it safe. We don`t need Grandpa keeling over cause you walked by with your favourite mini skirt on, follow the general guidelines and don`t wear skirts or shorts more than a few inches above the knee. Just keep in mind the works "Stylish and Classy" when you are picking out your outfit for the evening.
See if you can find out ahead of time what level everyone usually dresses up to. You don't want to be the one showing up in the ball gown to the t-shirt and jeans turkey dinner. It's a family event so although you want to have a little extra attention sent your way (who doesn't) you don't want to be the focal point of the evening and steal all the attention. So try and find out ahead of time if it's casual, semi-casual or even more formal then just dress to impress within the limits.
Last but definitely not least, cleavage. It shouldn't have to be said but countless time women over do it in this area. While it's not quite an office setting it wouldn't hurt to adopt the no cleavage policy for family events but if this seems a little too strict then follow stylist's recommendation of not showing more than one inch of cleavage. This will help keep it classy.
