The UKs history is packed with many different eras, and our country houses map them all out for you to see. So, if you want to enjoy a fantastic day out with the family this year, consider visiting one of the many country houses you can find in the UK.

Hardwick Hall
This country house in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, is a stunning Elizabethan creation and dates from the late 16th century. It first belonged to Bess of Hardwick, who was the Countess of Shrewsbury, and has been perfectly preserved over the years. It has massive stately rooms with long hallways packed with antique tapestries and paintings, as well as beautiful and well-kept gardens that you could wander around in for hours.
Lanhydrock House
Located in Bodmin, Cornwall, Lanhydrock House is surrounded by formal gardens and is a beautiful example of a Victorian country house. Sir Richard Robartes build the house in 1620, and despite the fact that it was almost completely ruined in a 17th century fire it's now been fully restored by the National Trust. In particular, you should check out the working kitchens, the nurseries, and the interesting servants' quarters, complete with period-dressed tour guides.
Kingston Lacy
This amazing country house in Wimborne Minster, Dorset, is most famous for its incredible art collection. It contains works by some of the most famous artists, such as Rubens, Titian and Van Dyck, so if you love art and you would like your kids to enjoy it too it's a must-visit attraction. The gardens are also a big draw for the house, especially the perfectly manicured Japanese Gardens.
Castle Drogo
Castle Drogo is the jewel in the crown of Devon's mesmerising countryside, and this county house in Drewsteignton attracts visitors from all over the country every year. The castle has gigantic granite walls that allow you to experience seemingly never-ending views of the surrounding countryside, and it also has a fantastic cafe in which all of the meals have been cooked with locally sourced produce.
Lyme Park
This country house in Disley, Stockport, was featured in the film Pride and Prejudice, so this should give you an idea of just how impressive it is! The house itself is a sight for sore eyes, but the grounds are something else entirely. Wild animals wander the rolling hills and you can enjoy marked trails for a walking day out after you have explored the house.
