Each year the presidents of several corporations meet and a special club to discuss which company had done the most to improve business
. This particular year the executives were attempting to decide which organization had improved productivity the most. Almost each business had increased productivity by at least 20% but each had accomplished it in different ways. One president had implemented the installation of new chair cushions in all the seats in his building. Another had replaced the seat cushions in his waiting rooms and claimed his customers were happier and easier to sell things to.Each executive went back and forth with the changes that he or she had made for the organization. Some executives had not considered installing chair cushions or seat cushions and were talking with those that had done so. The cushions come in different colors and are easy to clean. The seat cushions are popular for people that may be using wheel chairs or need extra support after certain types of surgical procedures.
After much debate, we found that we couldnt determine which company had done the best at increasing productivity until one president mentioned that perhaps a survey of the employees would help to make a decision. A survey was created and the executives were instructed to answer as honestly as possible. The main area of concern was whether the chair cushions had made the difference in how employees worked.
When the surveys came back, we found that out of all the responses, one company in particular had high praises from more than 90% of its employees about the cushions. Some of the comments on the surveys explained that employees found they could work longer without having to take breaks and didnt feel as tired at the end of the day. It made it easy to pick a winner after that.
