Hello my name is mark Searle and I am the director of Unicora.com.
I have created video for two reasons which are, let you know what I do at Unicora and also I want to just tell you a little about who I am and how and why I decided to start my own company.
I have always been a business minded person and always admired people like Sir Richard Branson for creating something from nothing. I am 22 years old and have already been in 3 totally different industries which have all helped me on the road to becoming an entrepreneur.
I first started in the catering industry and when I was 17 I was acting manager at a 5* London hotel. While there I was able to serve some well known people including Phil Collins and Mick Jagger. This industry is great for helping to develop people skills and learning how to compose yourself. It was during this time that I felt that I wanted to explore some other industries that would help me to become a better at business.
Although I had completed a Btec national diploma in hospitality and management and only had a C in maths I applied for a role with a large finance company working in stocks and shares. I was granted an interview and even though I was most likely the only person to apply that had no real training in the job I was given the role. I have been asked many times how that's possible and the answer is quite simple, what people look for most is not what's on paper but the person themselves. They saw that I am a self motivated person who has passion in becoming a success in any industry and any role.
I worked in this industry for two years, during this time I self taught myself, html, php, css, etc as a hobby that I enjoyed. I have always been a dreamer and literally have a new business concept or idea every day, I have a notepad in which I write these down. Though I can't work on each and every idea and some ideas are likely never to leave my notepad each idea motivates me forward and it allows me to think about things differently.
In 2009 I took the plunge and decided to start up my own web development business Unicora to specialise in helping small businesses and sole-traders to get online and have a website that works for them exactly how they wanted at a price that they can afford. I know and anyone who has tried or looked into starting their own business knows it can be very expensive to get setup so I saw a need for a company that could offer tailored websites at reasonable prices and take care of everything from hosting to getting the website domain.
