Interbreeding dogs has been a practice performed by people since time immemorial
. Interbreeding has also resulted in countless breeds of dogs that are around today. In fact, many breeders would even say that there is no such thing as a purebred dog anymore. We can simply just take one breed and match it to another to get the features that we like with both breeds into one litter. Cross-breeding can also help develop the perfect breed, especially if you want a dog thats great around children.
Here are a few cross breeds that make good family dogs.
Cockapoo
The Cocker Spaniels and Poodles mix has been around since the early 1950s. This common mix produces a medium sized dog thats furry and has a well temperament. The mix also develops one of the longest living dogs, reaching a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. They also shed less so you dont have to worry about your couch getting covered in fur.
Labradoodle
Another common mix, this is a dog thats descended from a Poodle and a Labrador. Like Cockapoos, they shed less and they have a great temper around kids. These dogs are very smart and easy to train. They can be a loving, loyal companion. Health wise, they are generally healthy, but you might want to watch out for degenerative myelopathy.
Bushland terrier
This is a mix between the Cairn Terrier and a Scottish Terrier. Imagine a black ball of fur running around the house with enough energy to power a car. These dogs are tiny and only weigh at the most 10 pounds. Their wiry hair may be a bit of a challenge to clean so keep your floors well mopped or theyll mop it for you with their bellies.
Goldendoodle
Poodles are probably the easiest dog to interbreed. This is another mixture of a poodle and a Golden Retriever. Naturally intelligent, loyal and guarding, these dogs are ideal family dogs. They are also energetic so your kids will definitely love to pay around with them. Hip dyspepsia and degenerative myelopathy may be a common illness, so its definitely something youll want to check on, especially on the Golden Retrieve side.
Morkie
A great toy dog, this is a mix between a Yorkshire Terrier and Maltese. Its a small dog, weighing about 8 pounds with a height of 8 inches. This mix creates a cute, furry dog thats naturally loving and warm. You might want to get 2 or 3 more of these dogs since they love company.
