, depending on the age of your children. Often, you will need to intersperse activities that the adults are interested in, such as viewing the archaeological sites which small children tend to regard as a bunch of rocks, with things that cater more to their interests when taking one of the many Peru luxury travel . A destination that can be done more family oriented is the Amazon jungle, depending on where you choose to stay.
Amazon Jungle
Most kids are pretty excited about the idea of going to the jungle to see the animals. With such a great variety of tours available, the whole family is going to be able to any enjoy a better experience than you could ever imagine. For example, you will not want to take small children on a hiking tour deep into Manu where you may not even see anything.
The animals that kids usually most like to see are monkeys. For this reason, EcoAmazonia in the Tambopata National Reserve can be a good choice. Monkey Island isn't authentic to the point that the animals are fed and cared for, but this doesn't make it any less enjoyable namely thanks to the friendliness of these animals. With the monkeys comfortable around people, you can be relaxed and happy that your children can see the animals.
Rainforest Expeditions has three different lodges in the Tambopata Nature Reserve located at varying distances from Puerto Maldonado. The one that is located in middle is called Refugio Amazonas and this one is particularly ideal for children. There is a children's playground as well as a rainforest trail specifically for kids. This trail is set up to teach kids about the rainforest in a fun way that includes following maps, solving riddles and finding clues along the trail.
With a guide that has experience in working and talking with children, you can sign up for a package that is orientated towards children and know that the activities will be right up their street. In addition to the children's trail, the guide will also take them to the parrot clay lick, the mammal clay lick, the canopy tower and on night walks in the jungle. A favorite activity is the drawing on of plant-based tattoos.
This is a 5-day/4-night package. Although the lodge says you need a minimum stay of 3-days/2-nights because of the distance from Puerto Maldonado, it is really best if you have at least 4 days to spend. Obviously, the more time you've got, the better. That said, if you're looking for a two nights and three days package then EcoAmazonia is one that can be enjoyed within that time frame.
Another consideration will be your budget. EcoAmazonia is definitely lower cost. The Rainforest Expeditions option, though quite a bit more expensive, also offers higher quality lodgings and probably offers a more educational experience for kids while still being fun.
Always remember that the rainy season is a tough time to go to the jungle and if you can book your trip outside this time, it is advised to do so. The best months to visit will be between May and October when it is also a bit cooler as well. To get to Tambopata, you will fly to Puerto Maldonado and go by river to your lodge, find a luxury travel agent now that can suit your needs.
