Things To Think About When Purchasing A Shelter For Your School

In the past, children were meant to be seen and not heard

. This is no longer the case. Today, we afford our children as many safety precautions as we possibly can. Whether they are at home, out and about, or at school, safety is paramount and every angle is considered. One area in which we are witnessing much growth is in providing shelters in school.

There are many reasons why shelters in schools have become so popular in the UK. The following are just a few examples of the way in which modern schools are thinking about the issue of providing shelter:

1. School shelters can help to provide a safe haven for certain vulnerable children. It provides them with a safe place to congregate that may be located someway away from other common areas. For instance, some schools choose to place anti-bullying shelters near to their staff rooms, so that children can hang around in peace, under the watchful eye of their carers.

2. Sometimes, a school shelter may actually be used in lieu of a new building. This clearly will keep down costs, as shelters are far cheaper than new buildings. Examples of these sorts of shelters may include the construction of a covered walkway, which saves the costs of an extension, or perhaps, as an outdoor classroom for those times when lessons may need to be outside, e.g. art and science lessons (at least these were the outside lessons when I was at school, all of 16 years ago!).

3. School shelters also afford protection from the elements. Clearly, they protect from the cold and the rain, and this will help to free up space indoors during turbulent weather - which is pretty much all the time in the UK! However, modern shelters also protect from UV, which as you know is damaging to the skin, and particularly so when skin is delicate, as it is in children. Modern shelters use treated PVC windows, which prevent many of the damaging rays of the sun from penetrating inside of the shelters.

Health and safety issues are a huge concern for modern day schools, where litigation happens at the drop of a hat. For this reason, school shelters need to be built using superior building materials that meet and excel industry standards. Modern school waiting shelters are therefore made from durable, safe materials that adhere to the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) requirements.

Other types of school shelter also exist, such as bus stops and cycle shelters. This is further encouraging for the local area, and enables schools to reflect the fact that they adhere to social responsibility policies, which - if you work in any kind of public setting, you already know - are key initiatives for modern businesses, whether schools, corporations, or other public venues.

When purchasing a new shelter it is important to discuss your needs with the manufacturer. They will be able to provide professional advice about the type of shelter that you need
