In 1881, the founder of Seiko opened a clock shop in Tokyo. Later, a brand was invented under the name of Seikosha, which was the parent company of Seiko. In 1899, the company invented alarm clocks, then followed by table and musical clocks in 1902. In 1924, the company Seiko was officially established. 43 years later, the brand began to make the first Seiko wristwatch. Since then, the world watch industry has gone through a series of modern advancement. Throughout the times, Seiko has maintained its performance in the timepiece industry. In 1956, Seiko produced the first self-winding wristwatch made in Japan. In 1964, Seiko released the quartz chronometers for the very first time, and became the official timer of the Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo. In 1969, the company debuted the first quartz watch. During the next years, Seiko introduced the first multi-function digital watch, and the first LCD quartz watch with six-digit digital display were introduced then. Spring Drive is a masterpiece created by Seiko in 1969, which is manufactured according to the principles of all mechanical watch technology. It consists of a mainspring, but uses an entirely new system for time regulation. It delivers the equivalent of 1 second per day accuracy, and comes with unique features.
