I believe that if character training is a primary goal of parenting, then the best way to instill him is through the demeanor and behaviors of a father.
Identification with him is a far more efficient teacher than lecturing, scolding, punishing and bribing. Boys watch their dads intently, noting every detail of behaviors and values your sons will imitate much of what you do.
If you blow up regularly and insult your wife, your boys will treat their mother and other females disrespectfully. If you drink to excess, your kids will be at risk for chemical substance abuse. If you curse or smoke or fight with your co-workers, your boys will probably follow you. If you are selfish or mean or angry, you'll see those characteristics displayed in your children" behavior.
Single parents raising boy should not despair. They should rather make up for the absence of a father by providing their sons with positive male role models of an uncle, a grandfather or a good family friend.
A measure of discipline is needed for child care, but more so in the case of boys that, obviously, is why I believe that, sooner or later, everybody gets into trouble, whether as a result of his activity level or just because he is human; it is a normal part of growing up.
Worldwide, it is accepted that boys are more likely to take part in anti-social behavior than girls, so heading boys has to be at the heart of healing the world's problems. Parents must take an active role in raising their boys to be healthy, responsible individuals, and secure in their maleness.
