Portland

The Isle of Portland is part of the Jurassic Coast and sits on the Dorset and East Devon coast. It is a limestone tied island and is situated around 5 miles south of Weymouth. Only 13,000 people live on the island of Portland. It is connected by a Tombolo which links it from Chesil Beach to the mainland.. Originally a Royal Navy base it is one of the largest man-made harbours in the world. The Isle of Portland has an important Naval history in terms of both the First and Second World War. Plymouth

Plymouth is a city on the coast of Devon. The rivers Plym and Tamar are located either side of Plymouth and are where it gets its name from.. Its history contains that of Sir Francis Drake and Sir John Hawkins who used it for their maritime trade.. In World War II it also suffered in the blitz as the dockyards were main targets.

Biscay

Home to some of the Atlantic's strongest and roughest weather, Biscay is named after the Bay of Biscay. Located on the Gulf Stream it is prone to some of the worst sailing conditions.. Trafalgar

Cape Trafalgar, as it is known, is where the Battle of Trafalgar took place in 1805. Napoleon's ship was destroyed here which combined the French and Spanish fleet. FitzRoy (formerly known as Finisterre)

Sole

This specific area is the sand bank of the Atlantic Ocean and the South West of Cornwall. Located to the west of the Scilly Isles it actually has no specific land boundary. There are many wrecks out here due to the nature of the weather and wrecking is part of the Scilly way of life.
