Revit Mep Design

With our clients ever increasing demand for accurate and efficient designs

, DFW Consulting Group has raised the bar with the addition of our Revit MEP services. The Revit platform of software utilizes BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology to create a 3D model of our project, in which we can logically lay out our MEP systems while avoiding unnecessary conflicts. Working in conjunction with Revit Architecture and Revit Structure, Revit MEP allows us to take coordination with architects and structural design team to a whole new level.

In traditional AutoCAD design, lines and patterns are used to represent floor plans. Additional lines and patterns were drawn on top to represent our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems. In Revit MEP, the building is actually modeled in three dimensions, with walls having heights, floors having thicknesses and ductwork having depths. Our floor plans are no longer simply lines that represent walls and doors, they are two dimensional slices through a three dimensional model, and can occur at any place in the model and at any height above the floor. Similarly, we can cut sections through the model in any direction, and even rotate the model in three dimensions to get a better look inside a cramped plenum space.

These tools give us a number of advantages over traditional design methods. Revit MEP makes it easy to see when we have ductwork conflicts with structural joists, or sanitary piping conflicts with grade beams, or even electrical devices that conflict with millwork. But the advantages don't stop with coordinating conflicts. Tagging and scheduling has never been easier or more accurate. Mechanical schedules and lighting fixture schedules populate themselves, by referencing parameters that are tied to mechanical equipment families and lighting fixture families inherent in the model. No longer are squares symbolizing a roof top unit. Instead, a roof top unit is represented by a three dimensional family that contains relevant parameters such as voltage, weight, air flow, and connection types. Tagging ductwork, plumbing fixtures, and electrical devices become error free since each device already knows what it is and what role it plays in the project. Combining these tools along with our highly trained staff, helps DFW Consulting Group stays on the cutting edge of engineering design, while providing better designs that are on time and within budget for our clients.
