Encompassing a number of the loveliest of South West London locations, the London Borough of Merton is a nice place to live. Many opt to reside in this area because of its quiet and suburban atmosphere. It offers a fantastic balance of quiet whilst still being closely located to London town. There are of course some that prefer to live within the hustle and bustle of the city, but Merton offers families, and those who prefer a more tranquil setting.
Merton itself contains popular Wimbledon and Raynes Park within its borders, so getting access to other parts of the city are fairly straightforward. However, because of the breadth of the borough, there are some aspects of the area that are not immediately near a tube or train station. Although, you neednt worry because London buses serve the area, providing transport links into better connected places. Plus, you can always hail a Merton taxi to take you to where you need to go.
Those that reside in the area are privy to the interesting features that the area holds. Its not all tennis, and Wimbledon you know. Theres a great deal more to experience. Leisure pursuits suitable for all the family, couples and singles, Merton Abbey Mills deserves a visit. Whats on offer there? Plenty. A simple bus ride can take you to a stop nearby to the Mills, but equally a more direct option maybe to get a taxi to Merton itself.
Bringing a touch of culture and creativity to the area, the arts and crafts market is definitely worth a visit at the weekends. Pop down on a Sunday for the opportunity to browse the stalls, sample some tasty cuisine and take in the sights alongside the River Wandle.
A lazy stroll on a relaxing Sunday is just the ticket, when you are in the mood for a spot of fresh air and an explore. Whats more is, Merton Abbey Mills is steeped in history. As the name suggests, it is (or once was) the location of a mill. Print makers, Libertys used to be situated here, using the wheel to wash their silk. Now the mill is a prominent feature, although used for other functions. Although there is plenty to learn about the history of this place, the majority of the people that visit the Mills, do so for the atmosphere and experience.
The antique, craft and jewellery stalls attract many people as to the small and quaint hut shops selling all manner of interesting items. Since the burgeoning scene of vintage fashion took off, many places have jumped on the bandwagon. This includes the Mills; theres a splendid little shop that sells clothing, knick knacks etc from days gone by. You might be lucky enough to stumble across something special.
Well leave it to you to discover the rest, telling you everything there is to see and do here is no fun. Were not spoil sports after all. All we will say is, there is a lot to this little community of shops, stalls and businesses. You can easily while away a great deal of time here, as well as stop for dinner.
