Is Your Business On The Back Burner?

Is Your Business On The Back Burner?

Summer is here with all its distractions

Summer is here with all its distractions. The kids are home, the weather is nice, and there are lots of things to do that are more fun than working on your business. In fact, maybe you have kind of put your business on the back burner for now. Maybe that is okay. After all, one of the advantages of working for yourself is the fact that you can decide when, and if, you want to work. But is it really necessary? Can't you have your summer fun and work your business too? Of course you can! There are lots of ways that you can still be involved in your business without taking away from your summer activities.

Build your personal skill set. One of the easiest ways to build your skill set is with books. Who doesn't like to sit outside and read? Granted, it is not quite the same as the summer romance novel you may have been thinking about reading, but by reading to build your personal skills, you can have your fun and still accomplish something productive. If you can't read the book, substitute that music for an audio book. That long drive to your vacation destination is a perfect time to listen. What to read? Get out there and network. We are all out and about more in the summer. Who says you can't tell people about your business. After all, it usually comes up in normal conversation anyway (the "what do you do" question). This is a great time to casually talk about your business with someone you have met. You don't necessarily have to offer a business card, but keep some handy in case they ask.

Engage in passive advertising. You are driving around, walking around, and are just generally out and about. Why not have something either on your vehicle, on your person, or both. Magnets for your vehicle can be inexpensive and you can always take them off later. Be sure to put your website and phone number large enough so people can read it. Bags, shirts, or cups are also great ways to advertise. If you work as an independent distributor and you don't purchase items directly from your company, be sure that using the logo, tag line, and/or artwork for the company is okay with them. Many companies have strict guidelines governing the use of these things.

Enjoy your summer and build your business. You can do both!
