International Container Shipping

International container shipping is a billion-dollar industry and it is not just for commercial shipping any longer

. The world is becoming a smaller place and international container shipping has transformed the economies of countries the world over. As people begin to relocate at a rapid rate from traditionally economically-strong countries to developing countries, personal shipping is also increasing at an unprecedented rate. Container shipping is ideal for heavy or bulky items which are not overly time sensitive and which are impractical for air freight.

Commercial versus Personal

Commercial shipping, pertaining to container shipping, is the movement of commercial goods inside a shipping container on an ocean-going vessel from one country to another. The goods may be anything from a container full of auto parts to a container filled with meat. While this process may sound very easy, it is far from a simple process. Each country in the world has unique importing standards and regulations and each container must meet both the exporting country requirements and the importing country requirements.

This often equates to certified government officials examining the goods prior to departure and prior to entrance of each country. Each container requires the proper documentation, as well. If any piece of information does not match on the documents or with the shipment, the container could be sanctioned or the company responsible for the goods will be fined heavily. As long as the proper protocol is followed, the process should be completed smoothly and potentially save companies millions of dollars in shipping each year.

This is becoming a viable option for small businesses which are sole proprietors. Exporting is increasing exponentially throughout small businesses worldwide; therefore, individuals are seeking out inexpensive ways to move their products. Personal container shipping is also growing in demand. Many people who move to new countries will choose to ship all of their belongings inside a container rather than to take a loss on selling existing items and buying new upon arrival.

The Future

Ocean container companies have learned that container shipping is not slowing down in demand. In fact, various ports across the globe are so congested that they are beginning to build new ports in many countries. The shipping companies often face seasonal demand; however, the growth of smaller shipments has encouraged them to adapt. It is becoming more common to combine shipments inside containers to save everyone money in the end.

International container shipping may take several weeks to arrive at its destination, however people and companies who are able to afford the time could save thousands per shipment. As new ports open and personal and small business shipments continue to grow, container shipping should continue to provide competitive rates and improve customer service.
