Home Business Marketing on a Budget

Share: While you will need some office equipment and stationery
, perhaps your most important startup task will be home business marketing. If no-one knows about your business, they're not going to buy your products or services. While you can't hope to rival the marketing activities of the gigantic companies with entire departments running their marketing, there are a lot of inexpensive, if not free, methods that you can use to market any home business.
Your first step in terms of marketing is to create an image for your business. Whether you are going into internet marketing or an offline business, you will need a name and logo for your business, and at least a business card. While a professionally designed logo will certainly look good, it may not be within your budget. Approach local colleges and high school art departments they are often happy to give their students a real' project, and you'll get plenty of versions to choose from. You may need to offer a prize for the winning design, but it doesn't have to be a costly exercise.
A website is vital, even if your business is going to be a physical one. Think of your website as an online billboard, touting your business 24/7, 365 days a year. Hosting is not going to cost you a fortune, and there are companies that will let you register and host a website for under $10 a year! If you can afford it, hire a website designer to design and build the site for you. With the technology available today, you can build your own site particularly if you get some online training from places like Wealthy Affiliate.
One point that should be made as a home business owner, you may want to seek out other home businesses for any outsourcing you do. Networking can be a wonderful source of new business, and if you have supported a home business in the past, they are more likely to refer you in the future. Leave a few business cards with them, and specifically ask them to refer any prospective customers in your line of work to you. Take some of their cards and offer to do the same for them.
Networking is another great way of finding new business. Find out about networking clubs in your area, or start one yourself. You don't want to be too pushy, but any event can be used as a networking opportunity if you talk business to another parent at a Little League match that's networking.
In terms of actual advertising, there are many options available just think about the number of advertisements you are bombarded with daily. Here's where your budget really comes into play. You will have to look closely at the best way to reach your target market the people who are likely to buy your product or service. Where will they be found? It may be working mothers, in which case school events and the school noticeboard may be an option for you. Is there an association that distributes newsletters to, for example, all the accountants in your area? Find out about advertising in your local newspaper or on local radio stations if your budget will stretch that far.
Online advertising can include banners on other websites, directory listings (some free, others paid for), online classifieds and a wide variety of free methods that will help you attract visitors to your website. Those free methods include blogging, participating in related forums, article marketing and much more. Home business marketing on a budget may mean that you have to put in more of your time, but the results will be worth it.
