GrandParents's Day
Festival is a folk culture that is created for the world's people to meet the needs of production and living
. It is an important part of world folk culture. In addition to some of our well-known festivals among the world, there are still many features festivals which also represent the local characteristics, and the GrandParents's Day is one.
Many countries in the world have the "GrandParent's Day". For example, America agrees this day on the first Sunday of Septemper. It was fall on 1978 when American president Jimmy Carter signed a bill which decided the the first Sunday in Septemper every year as GrandParent's Day. There would be held respecting for age activities acroos the United States when this day comes. It also becomes the United States respect of the elderly festival. Singapore is the forth Sunday in the November, and Portugal decides the July, 26 as the "GrandParent's Day". Poland's GrandParents' Day is acturally two festivals, one is for Grandma on January, 21 and the other is for Grandpa on January, 22 when the public holidays for Poland. The little children will show the blessing to their Grandparents when these two days come, at the same time, the kids would be taken over by grandparents to look after on the sencond day.
Taiwan was launched this festival for the first time in 2010, and decided in the fourth Sundays in August. Selecting the 4th Sunday of August is from the perspective of school education, to advocacy children, grandchildren, family reunion with their grandparents, sharing daily life of summer and preparing for the arrival of the new semester, new hope and incentive the grandparents, parents to accompany the children together to school.
The grandparents we referred here not only include our own grandparents but the elderly people who should be respected by all. According to one survey, more than 80% grandparents could speak out their grandchildren's name, but only 36.7% grandchildren's could speak out their grandparents' names, and about 10% totally don't know their grandparents' name. Also, about 40% grandparents remember their grandchildren's birthday, but only about 5% grandchildren remember their grandparents' birthday, even some have forgotten the birthday of their grandparents.
Though young people agree that they should get alone more with their grandparents, but actually they still lack of initiative and practical action. And now, this problem have already arose more and more people's attention, our people should remember this festival, and bring more happiness to our grandparents.
