You can give it to the Japanese to come up with madcap ideas like these. These types of restaurants bank on curiosity. The consumers go to these restaurants because they are curious. The restaurant achieves a museum status where tourists are drawn to.
Maybe culture has also something to do with it because the theme restaurants in the US are limited to celebrity appeal such as Planet Hollywood and Fashion Cafe.
